President of La Raza Justice Movement Condemns Comparison of Immigrants To Rats

Earlier this week, Curry Todd, a Tennessee law maker, likened immigrants giving birth to multiplying populations of rats.  His comments caused the consternation of an entire community when he said, that immigrants, due to certain interpretations of federal law, “go out there and multiply like rats.”

Hector Chavana Jr., president of La Raza Justice Movement, warns, “We must take notice when people in positions of power begin likening our people to animals.  Comparing a disenfranchised class to animals has always preceded ethnic cleansing and predatory violence.”

A Youtube video of Curry’s comments can be seen on Chavana’s blog, OurNewAnahuac.net.  Chavana is expected to comment on the lawmaker’s choice of words in his biweekly column in El Pueblo, a community newspaper that he publishes with a circulation of 20,000.
