FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 10, 2011

Texas employers attacked by Debbie Riddle

Description: In her most recent bill, State Representative Debbie Riddle attempts to make employers of undocumented workers state jail felons.  La Raza Justice Movement calls on employers to take sides.

Debbie Riddle has attacked employers by attempting to make them state jail felons if they have hired undocumented workers.  Her press release does not say that there are any exemptions for employers who have unknowingly hired undocumented people, potentially making thousands of small business people state jail felons.

In an interview, Hector Chavana Jr. of La Raza Justice Movement said, “employers now have to take sides, and they will have to decide if they want to be on the side of those who would make them felons or those who are fighting for human rights and full documentation for workers.”

This bill is part of a package of bills that Riddle has hired, which mirror much of what preceded Jewish internment in concentration camps in Nazi Germany.  Harassment of school-age students, employers and municipalities were all part of the Nazi program as well as that of pro-apartheid South Africa.
